Fume album review by Concrete Web
The formation Fume, hailing from Coventry, entered the Sable Rose Studio as early as 2004 with Andy Faulkner (Out For Blood, Bolt Thrower) for the recording of “A History Of Things To Come”, which has duration of more than fifty minutes. The music that Fume perform on this album is a mixture of several slightly related genres: raw, atmospheric Death Metal (early Six Feet Under, Autopsy), groovy Hardcore (Sick Of It All, Terror) and sludgy, grinding Metal(core) (Neurosis, Cult Of Luna). This combination may not seem that attractive, but Fume’s high level of performance is of an exceptional quality. There’s a lot of variation in tempo, melody and interaction, both musically and vocally. The band, moreover, does add some elements that lift the whole nicely up (acoustic pieces, intro’s, samples, tempo-changes and breaks). The album also exhales a certain grim darkness, which isn’t that usual within the (Death / Hardcore) scene, but in this case it fits perfectly well together. Excellent Sludge /Death / Doom / Hardcore / Groove from the Dark Side!

80/100
